And I always wonder why the gate posts seem to keep getting farther apart and I have such a struggle to close the gates.

We put up an old street sweeper brush for our horses and cattle to scratch on. They LOVE it. I wonder if something like that would work for sheep? Or would it just make them matted and tangled?
