More snow, more snow, and a sure sign of spring

One of my barn kitties, Albert, is mostly white with a few black patches. Lately he has been parking himself under Mom’s bird feeders when the weather is mild. He blends in with the snow quite nicely. While no one has witnessed any bird murders, Mom has not been happy about the situation. If I happen to notice Albert doing a vigil I try to chase him away before Mom notices him.

I had just finished chores yesterday and was taking off my boots when I noticed black and white movement outside the window. I was about to tap on the glass when I realized that it wasn’t Albert!

When the skunks start coming out of hibernation, spring can’t too far away.

Sledding

The snow was perfect for sledding today. Levi was not content to let me just watch, though. He insisted that Aunt Keen participate as well. Well, his plastic sled is now broken. And Aunt Keen is mighty sore tonight. Great memories sometimes come at a price.

Visitor

This little guy showed up in the barn while I was doing chores yesterday. My kitties were cautiously curious/territorial. Our visitor is (I am guessing) close to their age, slightly smaller and lighter. He was terrified, shaking with fear. I tried to approach him several times, but my guys were always there, intimidating him. When I fed my kitties and they were busy eating I was able to make better progress. He cautiously came to me and let me pet him. Then he was very affectionate. Clearly this little guy is used to people and has been loved. He is very thin, probably hasn’t eaten in several days.

So, I don’t know if he is lost or if he has been abandoned. For now I have him in the house to keep track of him. He has settled right in, clearly he is accustomed to being a house cat. I have posted his picture on my fb page and shared it around. If he is lost I want to reunite him with him family. However, if he is abandoned we will be keeping him. My Mom has been wanting a solid gray kitty and he is a really nice boy. We haven’t named him yet. Will give it a couple of days to see if anyone claims him. We don’t want to get too attached.

Still Digging Out

My brother usually keeps the driveway cleared for us. The snow from the weekend’s nor’easter was just too much, too wet, and too heavy for his plow truck to handle. He even trailered his bucket tractor with a snowblower over. But even that was overwhelmed. Dad had to call in some heavy duty equipment. The driveway is cleared for now. But the weather man says maybe another big storm for Wednesday. Sigh!

Baaad Baaad Sheep!

SDC14211

Yesterday the sheep got out of the fence. All but one. Maggie Mae apparently did not get the memo about the escape plans. So the whole flock, minus one, headed to the soybean field to eat what the harvester left behind. Maggie was freaking out. She could not get to the rest. Sheep are not happy being away from the flock. She was calling and calling to them, running around, trying to figure out how to rejoin them. I finally decided to help her out. She ran up to me in the barn yard, panting with anxiety. I decided to let them stay in the field, since they weren’t near the road. But Maggie was scared to go by herself. I had to walk her over to join the rest of the escaped convicts. Brats.
