SheepLadder

Georgia is using Chevy as a step ladder to get up to the roost. Chickens are not good flyers. Their roost is higher than they can hop/fly to in one shot. (I made it that way on purpose so they will be safer from any predators that might get into the barn at night.) I made a little ladder for them to use. Sometimes they use the partition on the end of the pen. My favorite move, though, is when a sheep is standing close enough and they hop/fly to the sheep’s back and from there to the roost. The sheep don’t seem to mind. In fact, I think the hens’ long, pointy toes penetrate the sheep’s thick wool to help scratch their backs. Sheep LOVE back scratches. Some of them can be quite demanding for me to scratch their backs. I just find it so funny to see them getting scratches from chickens. And the chickens treating them like convenient footstools.

Thief

We feed the lambs in a creep, a pen with an opening big enough for the lambs to get in and out, but too small for the adults to get in. That was the lambs can eat whenever they want. It helps them grow better. If you look at the first photo you will see there is an open window at the end of the creep. They window lets in sunlight, fresh air, …and chipmunks. They come in and clean up what the lambs drop on the floor. And “CHIP!” at me all the time. Look how full the guy on the end has stuffed his cheeks! Come on Casey and Tiggy, time to thin the “herd” some more.

Trapped!

The last thing I expected on the path to the barn was a bear trap! Levi set this after I did chores on Saturday. I was caught completely unaware when I went to the barn Sunday. Had to gnaw off my own foot….

Sooo helpful

This is what I have to put up with every day. The chickens have to be right there when I sweep the barn floor, just in case I turn up something good to eat.

“Come on, you guys! I can’t move the broom!”
