At 26 degrees (F), today is the warmest day we have had in a week. Still dealing with frozen water tubs in the barn, but doing chores was much more comfortable today.

It took a little convincing, but I managed to lure the sheep away from the back door of the barn. Since the snow and ice covered all the forage in the pasture they have been spending their outside time flocked around the door, yelling at me to let them back in. Today I got them to move… around to the side of the barn. Brats.
Today it was 5 degrees (F) at 2 pm. It was 21 degrees in the barn. The wind is blowing the frigid air right in. The Kittens were ALL trying to squeeze into Tiggy’s bed (they have their own, but I guess Tiggy’s is warmer?). The chickens went to roost at 2 pm, even though it was a bright, sunny day. I thought my toes were gonna freeze off. When I got out of work tonight my car thermometer said minus 4. But the wind makes it feel much worse. I’ve had quite enough of winter, now.

These two kittens have basically taken over Ruby’s nesting spot and made it into a bed. The hens aren’t laying much now that we are well into winter. However, I can foresee issues if the kittens are napping and Ruby needs to lay an egg.

The girls are not happy with me. I keep making them go out to pasture every day when there is nothing in the pasture for them to eat.
Why am I so cruel?
a. They need the exercise
b. The fresh air and sunshine are good for them
c. It is nearly impossible for me to get any work done in the barn when they are in my way.
d. All of the above!

It’s a good thing Albert has a few black markings or I would never find him in the snow!
